What Are Floorcloths?
Floorcloths are canvas rugs that may be used on any hard surface in the kitchen, foyer, under the dining table, or anywhere you want a work of art that is as beautiful as it is functional.  They are extremely durable, and will last for decades when properly cared for.

History of Floorcloths
Floorcloths have been popular in the US since Colonial times.  The earliest were made from the sails of ships and were painted in geometric designs.  By the end of the 18th century, they were being used in almost every room of the house.  By the 19th century with the advent of the Industrial Revolution, floorcloths had lost their popularity, but with the resurrgance in interest in Colonial design in the mid-twentieth century, they once again regained their populatity.  Now, in the 21st century, they have been reinvented, and the designs are as limitless as our imaginations!

How I make my Floorcloths
My floorcloths are made with an emphasis on durability. I use a heavy canvas made especially for floorcloths.  First, I apply two coats of latex primer on both sides.  The artwork is created with only the highest-quality acrylic paints, and all of the floorcloths are turned under with a 2" hem.  When complete, I apply several coats of non-yellowing, non-cracking varnish which protects the artwork and gives the floorcloth a tough finish.  I then apply two coats of paste wax to protect it even further from soil. When the wax is dry, I buff it, and this gives the finished work a beautiful patina. 

 The gallery features my own floorcloth designs as well as some custom pieces created for clients. I will be happy to reproduce any of these in a size that fits a particular space, and to change colors to suit your decor.  Of course, no two are exactly alike....they are truly one-of-a-kind.  We can also work together to create your very own floorcloth.  A picture of your china, a fabric swatch, painting, photo, even your pets can serve as inspirations.  Before I start on the actual floorcloth, I will make some sketches for your final approval at no extra charge.

Prices start at $40 per square foot depending on the intricacy of the design.
